What is a Non Medical Homecare?Non-medical care generally means assisting elderly or disabled persons in performing their activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living . Examples of such activities include assistance with eating, bathing and maintaining personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, and basic mobility, preparing meals, transportation assistance, light housecleaning, laundry, and shopping for essentials. In addition, Non-medical care may also include companionship and supervision. Assistance with medication is an area that differentiates medical care from non-medical care. Medication reminders for taking pills is considered non-medical, but medication administration is considered medical care.

Can Homecare be temporary or long term? One of the biggest advantages of home care services is that they can be customized to accommodate each client’s unique needs. This care option is extremely flexible and can be increased or dialed back as a client's condition declines or improves. In-home care plans are evaluated regularly and evolve along with changes in a client’s physical and mental health. Temporary or Short-term home care services can last anywhere from a few days to a couple of months while a client is recovering from an illness, injury or surgery. In these instances, home care is a temporary service. Long-term in-home care services are best for seniors who are disabled or living with chronic and/or progressive conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, heart disease, lung disease, Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. In these instances, regular assistance and care are required and the client’s needs are likely to increase.
